GP40-2 No. 3118

As of September 2004

This unit was heavily tagged by a graffiti "artist" on its right side in the late '90s.  Nevertheless, most of the original Rio Grande features may be discerned.

This view is the opposite (left) side, what used to be known as the fireman's side.

  • The class lights have been removed from this end of the locomotive and blanked out.
  • UP-style ditch lights are installed on the rear end.
  • The red warning labels date from the SP era.  The fuel cut-off switch label on the sill is a UP addition.
  • The rear numberboard is original.
  • The horn has been relocated from the cab to the middle of the long hood, most likely during the SP era.  It also is no longer the original Nathan horn; it looks like a Leslie.
