Candidates Zrencyari & Zarrak

Zarrak stares in wonder as the large dragons circle down to his home. The hold was very small, but the dragons were still Searching here!

Beside him, his twin sister Zrencyari laughs in delight, and starts tugging on his shirt to get his attention. "We need to go see them, Zarrak!"

The boy agrees, and the two run off to meet the dragonriders when they land.

They find out that the largest dragon is a bronze named Jumarth, and his rider is a nice man named H'lian. He is on search from Tiynarea Weyr for a white and black's clutch. Zarrak and Zrencyari couldn't believe their ears, a very special clutch was about to hatch!

Bronzerider H'lian looks at the two children, and asks Jumarth whether they would be acceptable as candidates. They would. Jumarth replies, pleased with himself.

"Well, you two, you had better go and pack your things. You're candidates now!" H'lian tells the twins, and they shriek in joy.

Once they arrive at Tiynarea Weyr, they are amazed at the number of dragons ranged on the cliffs. When they spot the hatching grounds and the white mother dragon, they practically faint with excitement.

"We're going to be dragonriders!" Zrencyari shouts in happiness, smiling at Zarrak.

He smiles back at his sister, and the two are jolted by the landing dragon. They thank H'lian and Jumarth and are led to meet the Weyrwoman.

The senior queen approves of the siblings, and they are taken to their weyrs, were they will be staying until the hatching. The Weyrwoman told them that if they didn't impress at this hatching, they could stand at the next one, which made the twins feel even happier.

Once they had been at the Weyr for a few days, they began to make friends with the other candidates, especially Iralirec. He was around their age, and was just as scared as they were to be candidates.

Brother and sister are looking forward to their new lives at Tiynarea Weyr, and hope that they will have dragons soon to make them feel more at home.
