Okay here's another crappy fic I've whipped up. Only this time I wrote part of it when I'm somber and part of it when I'm under the influence of drugs (er, cold pills, that is. ^^;;). As I'm typing this I still have a cold so hopefully this html stuff is readable and everything makes sense...
I still can't think of a name for this fic. It's actually my first songfic, centered on Youji and Asuka. This is supposed to happen between the end of ep.21 and the finale. Even though the details are a little different, it's got *SPOILERS* from the whole tv series , so if you don't know or don't want to know what happened to Youji and Asuka at the end, stop reading now. The song I'm using here is called Standing at the Edge of the Earth, by Blessid Union of Souls. The lyrics are within the //.

Where's Youji? Aya asked.
He went out early this morning, Ken replied.
Don't wait for me.
Aya glanced out of the window. There was not a cloud in the bright blue sky. A nice breeze was blowing in from the shop windows, sending the sweet scents of various flowers into his nose.
It's one of those days again, Ken said.
Aya frowned, concern written all over his face.
"I'll have to have a talk with him later."
//I knew that this moment would come in time
That I'd have to let go and watch you fly
I know you're coming back so why am I dying inside//
With the vast blueness in the left corner of his eyes, Youji drove down the scenic highway by the mountain, going to a certain destination again. The sea breeze blew in from the open window, caressing his face and hair. He can smell the saltiness of the ocean in the air.
A scene flashed in his head. Neu…no, Asuka…was running away with the rest of Schreint…
He uttered her name softly under his breath and stepped hard on the gas pedal.
"Asuka…why didn't you come back to me? Don't you recognize me?"

Trying to hide your emotions but eyes don't lie
Guess there's no easy way to say goodbye//
Another scene. He has finally pinned her down and was going to remove her headgear, trying to see her eyes…
'Cause eyes never lie.
But she has gotten out of his grips and started attacking him again. Just when he was almost killed, he whipped out his wire and circled it around her neck. With an anguish cry and a determined pull of his hands, he took her life.
"Sayo…nara…"
With the sound of this word still ringing in his ears, he stepped out of his car and slowly walked towards the edge of the cliff. He held a bouquet of cattleyas in his hands.
Under such a clear blue sky many mornings ago, two lovers came to this lonely cliff. The ocean laid tranquil far below them, the waves lapping at the shore gently. She ran happily ahead of him, a big smile spreading across her face. She held a bouquet of cattleya and a picnic basket in her hands.
"I love this place Youji. Let's come here whenever there's a breezy sunny day like this."

He walked towards the edge of the cliff and stared at the horizon. For a moment he thought he could see the shade of her hair in the ocean, her face in the sky.
"Asuka…"
//Someday.//
"…You will come back to me…right?"
A single tear finally escaped from his eye and slid down his cheek, and he sighed.
//Don't misunderstand what I'm trying to say
I don't want to let you leave this way
I want you to know that I stand right by your side//
"You know I'll always be here for you…"

As he continued to stare at the blue sky and ocean that brought back so many memories, he started to feel better. Because deep inside his heart, he had a feeling that someday, he will see her again…Here, at their favorite spot in the world.

Hoping for someday//
He stood there with his eyes closed, silently praying to kami-sama. As if standing in front of a huge wishing well, he scattered the cattleyas into the ocean when his prayer was finished, hoping that kami-sama will grant his wish for once.

But whatever happens know that I'll...//
Each cattleya danced in the wind for a while before floating down into the ocean. The wind has blown some of the petals off of the flowers, carrying them to an unknown place…
Perhaps to her…

As he watched the flowers disappear from his view, he absently pulled out a cigarette and lighted it, once again lost in his thoughts.

When he felt the cigarette burning his fingers, he dropped it and snapped back into the present.
"I have to go now, Asuka…"
// I'll be standing at the edge of the earth

"…But I'll be back soon."

He turned his back to the never-ending blueness and slowly walked back to his car.

He got into the car…
