Arguments for using OPs \/ Arguments against using OPs
1. (example) OPs should be used for all information gathering because they are completely anonymous. Therefore the students will vote honestly. (Granger)  1. (example) Counter Argument - Sometimes it is important for the T to collect information that is not anonymous. Therefore, OPs are not appropriate for all classroom information gathering.
2. Counter Argument - unlike traditional paper surveys, OPs make compiling and synthesizing data much easier.  2. OPs take too much time for the T to get feedback. Because Ts usually need to make quick decisions, an in class show of hands is better. (Weasley)
3. OPs can be used as a low stress introduction to online participation. (Dumbledorf)  3. Counter Argument -of course it is a low stress there is no communication
4. Counter Argument - Students can be warned ahead of time, so they are responsibe for checking polls.   4. OPs should not be used because some students may accidently miss the survey. This may make students feel like their opinions do not matter. (Potter)
5. OPs get Ss involved in class decisions, activities, and discussions making the class more student centered. (Granger)  Don't complain! Just do it!
6. Counter Argument -yes, indeed!!!  6. When Ts use online polls, the Ss lose an important opportunity to negotiate meaning and communicate in class. (Potter)
7. One clear advantage of online polls is that they allow Ss time to think about their responses, and even change their vote! (Dumbledorf)  7. Counter Argument - But when they think they have time...
8. Counter Argument - all students can have access by using the computer lab   8. OPs are only useful if the Ss have access to computers outside of class. (Granger)
9. Unlike traditional paper surveys, OPs make compiling and synthesizing data much easier. Therefore, using OPs makes it easier for Ts to actually use the data that they collect. (Potter)  9. Counter Argument -
