Varieties Guide

***I am NOT a genetics expert, as they’re something I’m still learning. This guide is to help you to know what different groups of varieties there are, which groups varieties fall under, and what breeds recognize what varieties. If you’re looking to learn about genetics, make sure to check some great links I have on them at the bottom of this page***

The first thing to know about the different varieties is that are only two: Black and Chocolate. Everything else is a genetic modification from the Blacks and Chocolates.

Intense (full)- the Black and Chocolate versions of the colors- eg: Chestnut Agouti, Chinchilla, Sable, Chocolate Agouti, ect.
Dilute (faded)- the faded out versions of Black and Chocolate. Blue is the dilute of Black and Lilac is the dilute of Chocolate. Some dilutes are Opal, Lynx, Squirrel, Smoke Pearl, ect.

Another thing to know is that there are only three color patterns:
Agouti- dominates over the other patterns
Tan Pattern- dominates over just Self
Self- fully recessive
