Ear Carriages

There’s two types of ear carriages: rabbits with upright ears, and rabbits with lopped ears. The lop breeds include the American Fuzzy Lop, English Lop, French Lop, Holland Lop, and the Mini Lop. All other breeds have upright ears.

For upright ears some breeds hold them together, and some will hold them in a V shape
look. Check you breed’s standard for which way your breed holds it’s ears.

For lopped eared rabbits, they all have crowns with the exception of the English Lop. The crown is the bump on top of the rabbit’s head, and controls the way the ears are carried. If you look at the ears of the American Fuzzy Lop, French Lop, Holland Lop, and Mini Lop, you’ll notice that the inside of their ears are pointed inwards towards the rabbit’s head. The ears should lie flat against the sides of the head, and not go out in a helicopter like look.

It’s a fault for the English lop to have a crown. Because of not having the crown, their
ears are carried differently, the opening of their ears goes out from the body, facing
frontwards. If you look at their ears compared to a lop breed with a crown you’ll see the difference between the way they are carried.
