My name is Siew Hai Tan. I am of Malaysian Chinese origin, born and bred in a Taoist family where we worship our ancestors and the numerous Chinese idols. Along with that we followed the teachings of Buddha. I grew up with deep cultural and religious beliefs entrenched in my life.

When I started work in Kuala Lumpur, the capital of Malaysia, I practiced my belief diligently. Being a pious follower, there was a strong urge within me to perform good deeds. I would busy myself helping the handicaps, go to the temples and attend the chanting sessions. But deep within me there was dissatisfaction with life. I wanted peace in my heart but there was none.

One day I had this strange dream. I was at my desk at work working when my phone rang. I picked up the phone and heard a long distance voice identifying himself. His name sounded like an ancient Christian name which I could remembered very well at that time. When I tried to talk to him, the line when dead. I pondered over the meaning of this dream. Did it signify that I was going to marry a Christian man? How could it be since I was a staunch Buddhist?.

I had more dreams after that - Angels, beautiful seas & picturesque mountain ranges. I also dreamt of being in an Airplane with a plane ticket in my hand. I believe God saw my plight. Through seemingly ‘arranged’ circumstances, I landed myself in New Zealand. I had my share of hard times. Being a staunch Taoist, I carry a statue of ‘Kuan Yin’ or ‘Goddess of Mercy’ to help me. I pray to her asking for help and blessings. One night, more depressed than usual, I went off to bed after my usual routine of prayer to Kuan Yin. It was a night that will change my entire life. I was asleep when I was woken up by a loud booming voice echoing in my room. The voice told me I was worshipping and calling upon the wrong God. There is a God who is much mightier and higher above all the other Gods. Strangely, I wasn’t frightened and went back to sleep.

Things then turn for the better. Soon after, I found myself a good job and met two fine Christian friends, Jodie and Rosalind whom I believe constantly prayed for me. Often I would sense a Presence following me. Blessings flowed into my life. I remembered turning around and asking this Presence to reveal Himself to me. Today I know the Presence is none other that the Lord Himself. As time goes by, the desire to know and seek God increased. One Sunday, feeling frustrated and angry, I decided to go to a Church at Vivian Street. However the people were in uniform and I felt uncomfortable and left. I then walk aimlessly and saw a place selling cheap books. I went inside the shop and saw rows of books. In front of me was a small thin book which had the title "ASK AND IT WILL BE GIVEN TO YOU, SEEK AND YOU WILL FIND; KNOCK AND THE DOOR WILL BE OPENED TO YOU" (Matt 7:7). I browsed through the book and in that little book I found CHRIST.

It has been ………..since I gave my life to Jesus. The Lord has in so many ways blessed, guided and protected me. I had also been healed of my back pain, rheumatism and RSI. God is indeed the Great Physician! I just want to praise HIM who loves and gave me Jesus Christ, my precious Saviour and Lord. Hallelujah!
