Casey's Cancer

In June 2004 we noticed
Casey's tummy was a little swollen and tight.
Casey was taken to the vet, he said it was one of three things
first he had ate some poison second had a belly full of blood
or he had cancer. When we heard the word cancer tears started flowing. That
night Casey had to stay at the vet.The next day was the 18th of
June, I had to go to work so I called during my break to see how
Casey was doing, the vet told me Casey was taken into surgery
at 7:00am and they removed a tumor the size of a tennis ball.
He also was in critical condition at this point, and he didn't
think Casey was going to make it because he had lost so much blood. We
went to see Casey that afternoon, the vet showed us the tumor he
removed,he said it was a Intra-abdominal Teratoid Tumor.At this
point he also told us it was very rare and there is no cure plus
he was probably had it since birth.I couldn't believe something
that big came out of a little dog.The vet said if Casey made it
threw the night he thought he would be o.k. After an extremely
long night Saturday finally rolled around, Casey made it and got
to come home. The first couple of days after he came home all he
did was lay around, then after a few days to our delight he was
back up running and playing as if nothing had ever happened. On
Dec 27th we saw the same thing again his tummy was tight and swollen
and he would cry when we picked him up.Casey was taken to the
vet again,he said the tumor had returned and did not recommend
surgery for every surgery lessons his chances.Casey was given
a pain shot. Casey has days he doesn't feel well we give him baby
aspirin that seemed to make him feel better.I've always guarded
and watched over Casey like a old mother hen keeping him out of
harms way, then something like this comes along it doesn't seem
fair that Casey should have to go throw something like he is a
very sweet little dog.We have had allot of good years with Case
and hope and pray to have many more.Casey will be 6 yrs old on
Feb.14th he is to young to have to go through this.
Casey lost the battle
with his cancer on Jan. 31 2005
He will be sadly missed.
