Ricks Family Connection: Exum Ricks
Earliest State of Origin: Isaac Ricks, Sr.

Comments: Sounds like and excellent book, too bad you could not connect to Isaac Ricks, Sr. IofW Co., Va. As you said: Exum Ricks, son of Abraham and Rachel Bunn,(dau. of David Bunn)Son of Ben. wf.? (I was chided by a friend in DAR on Lewis Ricks, because Benjamin l fit so much to my Abraham, but what she didn't say about what their grandfather, William gave to them to her Lewis) Ben. son of William b. 1698,(m. Easter Long Kirby) IofW , son of Isaac b. 1669. did he m. Sarah McKinnie? Burke? Did Isaac have a dau. m. John Bunn? 20 yrs. ago I helped a friend in Colonial Dames XV11'th Centry Line on her Barnabus MC Kinnie. She came into through Lane. I've searched Ricks for 40 years, but have not submitted to DAR or CD. Abraham did not serve in the Rev. but I am sure he contributed to the cause, with 2 sons killed in the War 1812. You did a great job! Thanks for listening to me. I'm still searching the Ricks of IofW Co.,Va.

Comments: I'm glad you have these wonderful resources. I'm anxiously awaiting my copy of your book. I'm descendant from what's become known as the Utah/Idaho Ricks lines. Ricks College is named for my grandmother's uncle. The 1908 book was written by my great-great-great uncle.

I am busy trying to tie all the descendants of the Utah/Idaho Ricks' together. Just the other day I found that a recent good friend was, in fact, a third cousin. My web page is not up yet, but I expect it to be by Christmas and it will be mostly family/genealogy oriented. Please be sure to drop by.

Earliest State of Origin: N. C.
Maternal Lineage: Millis, Fields

Comments: Found an 1860 printed census record for Randolph Co., N. C. at DAR library, showing Evaline Ricks living w/Edward Gray 66/Jane Gray 77 in Ashboro, N. C. In Randolph Co., New Salem, N. C. same year was Susanna Ricks living w/K. W. and Jane Coltrane Davis. The 1860 federal index lists Evalina as "Rise" not Rix. No wonder I couldn't find Evaline after 1850 - that fancy writing back then trips me up alot.

Comments: Hi, Don, Just wanted to drop you a note to say I received your book and I am overwhelmed... and totally consumed. I am so very impressed with the amount of documentation, your attention to detail, and how well the book is organized. I know very little about the world of genealogy, perhaps showing my ignorance, but I just can't imagine the number of hours of research that went into this collection, much less the time spent organizing files, transcribing and making sense of the data... wow!!! I look forward to exploring your findings, and in the process, I know I will learn more about genealogical research. You have prepared a fine, however intimidating, model to follow. Mostly, I would like to thank you for providing me, my family and future generations (I hope) with, as you so eloquently put it, "a starting point... a gift, a legacy.. and a goodly heritage." Fondly, Nina M. Reauveau

Comments: My book just arrived, and it is beautiful! I wasn't sure how it was going to look, but it couldn't be a nicer book. It is going to make a nice addition to my library. I haven't had time to sit down and read the whole thing yet, but I glanced through it, and I can tell you put a great deal of work into it. It looks very thorough and well-organized. I can't wait until I have a chance to read all of it. Thanks for all the hard work...and for undertaking such a large and complicated project. I know it will be a great resource for all those of us researching the Ricks name! ...Carolyn
