One day a new boy came to Edea and Cid Kramers orpanage. if you asked them now they would still remember what day it was; what the weather was like, who left the boy at the orphanage, what age he was at his arrival, all those things.
But unfortunately I have not had the chance to ask them these things so what I am telling you hear is mainly sprung from my imagination.
However, I am certain they would have remembered that day. It had greater impact on their destinies than they could have known at that point.
I would like to assume that he had been given the name Seifer Almasy before he arrived at the orphanage. Then you get the feeling he had a history before he came in to Cid and Edeas care.
Feeling all lonely and abandoned, not having anything constant in his life, he enters this new home. The other children are nice to him and he feels safe in their presence. But there is always a fear lurking around the corner. What if they will leave me too?
With this thought constantly gnawing in his mind, little Seifer puts up a shield between himself and the people he loves. What can not get to you can not hurt you. It makes sense to him.
He starts to seak out the wrong kind of attention. Quistis, Irvine, Selphie and maybe even Squall, follows him when he is up to mischief and this makes him feel needed. Then Zell starts tatteling on them and Seifer fear he will lose his friends when he can not continue his daring acts. So now he starts picking on Zell and tries to exclude him from the rest.
My guess is that the others soon grew tired of Seifer as he was getting louder and meaner, and he slowly began to lose his friends.
But he would not allow himself to be weak, he would not let them see how lonely he was. Once again he put up a shield to protect him from everything that could do him harm and make him feel like this again, only this time he would not take it down. In the end his friends never knew how he really felt about them.
They were soon all adopted except for Seifer and Squall. When they were five-six years they were old enough to enter the military academy Garden. Cid, who was the headmaster of Balamb Garden and one of the founders of the whole Garden project, saw the two boys as future Seeds.
An interview was arrenged and they were both accepted as students. They were soon shipped off to their new home.
At Balamb Garden they did not see much of each other and pretty soon Squall was just a distant memory to Seifer and the orphanage and the friends he once had was just a fragment of a derelict dream.
