During my life, I have always struggled with what should be my core beliefs, and who was worth listening to, and what I should believe in. I have found some things that my parents or authority figures told me to believe in, that I simply can not believe in. I've found most of all that I believe in is the prevention of social injustices. I find that I believe that you should not discriminate against people, or even treat them any different then other people, regardless of ethnicity, gender, political ideology or any supposed defects that they have. I have always found social injustices, such as racism, or even paying someone a lower wage just because of their race, are some of the most heinous crimes known to man. I remember when I was in fourth grade, we were assigned to do a project on a great character, and I was the only boy in my class to do something other then a sports figure. I was always fascinated by the idea of being able to get rid of social injustices, and for all people to be able to be treated as who they are, not what race they are or what gender they are. This leads to another point in my beliefs about social injustices, the belief that people should be judged for who they are and what values they hold instead of things that they cannot affect. I think that holding prejudices against certain types of people really hinders our ability to see who or what those people really are, and makes it so we are not able to appreciate the accomplishments that these people have made, or the way that they can positively affect our lives. I think that social injustices and prejudices are ultimately the things that cause things like the Holocaust, and things like slavery to occur. I think that the world would be a much better place if people got rid of their prejudices, and accepted people for who they are and the values they hold. My ultimate belief and hope is for the world to be a place free of social injustice, and I believe we should do all we can to prevent social injustices when and where we see them.
