Daniel

The name Daniel means "God is my judge." At age 14, he was taken into captivity in Babylon by Nebuchadnezzar in 605 B.C. In Babylon, he was with three other companions, and they all were educated and schooled. Daniel moved up in rank as did the other three youths, and asked to be on a strictly vegetable diet. Daniel and the three others greatly excelled in wisdom and were appointed into the king's court. They proved to be better than the wise men and others. Daniel proved to be one of the wisest when he interpretted Nebuchadnezzar's dreams twice. After Nebuchadnezzar's death, Daniel was at a banquet and writing on the wall mysteriously appeared, but proved no match for Daniel's translating wisdom. King Darius wanted to promote Daniel throughout the kingdom, however, others feared Daniel being so elevated. Darius was persuaded to make a decree forbidding anyone to pettition anyone,God or man, except the monarch for three days. Daniel, being the holy prophet that he is, was found praying 3 times per day with his window open as usual. After getting caught, Daniel was sent to death in a lion pit. Daniel was saved by God and survived the pit of lions. Therefore, Darius declared that the God of Daniel was all powerful and was to be worshipped by all in the area.
