Dawson is our blue-eyed, 2 year old chocolate point & white desexed male Devon Rex, who is constantly ill from Type 1 Hypersensitive Dermatitis which causes skin problems. This specific condition, which was determined by skin biopsies, affects the skin by making it intollerable to certain foods, household and environmental conditions. The cause of the condition in Dawson's case is still unknown but my vet proposes that his allergic reactions are probably hereditary and permanent (his mother has Feline Aids and it is unknown if this has affected his condition). Dawson needs regular cortisone treatment (which will decrease his life-span) and antibiotic treatment for pain and infection. His bouts of illness appear to be sporadic and when they occur his skin needs to be washed and hydrated regularly with special medications. Because Dawson has very little fur he is sucseptible to the cold and needs to wear a little coat of cotton material (wool is an irritant). Usually covered in red spots that bleed and become infected from constant scratching, Dawson is pink and patchy to look at; a contrast to the soft, white, curly-coated cat he is supposed to be. When his allergies are under control, Dawson is a happy, loving and playful boy but otherwise he is very distressed. Dawson is a one person cat and I am blessed to be that person. Medications: Clomicalm................... For stress Voren Suspension .....Cortisone to stop scratching Prednisolone...............Cortisone to stop scratching Antirobe.........................Antibiotics for infections Humilac........................Dry skin spray Malaseb........................Medicated wash Epi-soothe...................Shampoo with Spherulites Resisoothe..................Leave-on skin lotio |

Passed Away 23rd May 2003 |
Born 1st January 2000 |
Dawson Over the rockery, garden slugs slide While worker ants scurry then scatter to hide Grasshoppers gnaw on the morning’s new grasses It’s been quite a while now but time slowly passes. Alone in his basket that’s fashioned of wicker He’s curled as if sleeping but life doesn’t flicker Wrapped snug in his blanket of quilted blue cotton He’s our special boy and he won’t be forgotten. I cherish this garden, a home for the living Where time never stops and it still keeps on giving It holds the most precious of gifts at its hearth It’s his little resting place; my sacred earth.
