'COWARDLY' ATTACK ON PC
17 February 2003
An Ilkeston policeman who was slashed by a knife-wielding football hooligan has branded his attacker a coward.
Pc Allan Guy suffered a four-inch gash to his leg in the attack on Saturday. He needed an exploratory operation to his knee but no serious damage was found. PC Guy was one of the officers keeping opposing fans apart outside Pride Park at 5.10pm after Derby County's home clash with Sheffield Wednesday.
The 33-year-old, who has served with Derbyshire Police for five years, was treated at Derbyshire Royal Infirmary.
He said: "This wasn't an accident - somebody was responsible for what happened to me and there were a lot of people around. It's nothing more than cowardly."
