(Restructured Basic Education Curriculum) had been the central focus of the
division activities since Schools Division Superintendent (SDS) Dr. Luisa
Bautista-Yu, CESO V, arrived from the Planning Meeting on the Training on the
implementation of the BEC at DepEd Complex, Pasig City on Feb 06, 2002. To make the training very systematic, a training tram was organized. This was headed by the SDS, and the members were Mrs. Josefina N. Ramos, ASDS, Mr. Jose Gaviola, ES- I, NFE, Mr. Carmelino P. Bernadas, ES- I, Science and Mrs. Marilyn C. Gervacio, Caibiran CS Principal. The team trained 18 Division Core of Trainers (COT) Composed of Education Supervisors and selected School Principals and Master Teachers. The Division COT had a writeshop in developing session guides to be used in the training of school administrators who will in turn train the teachers. On April 05, 2002 a one-day orientation and walk through of the session guides and clarification of the tasks of the training teams was conducted. The training of the school administrators was conducted in 3 batches. Batches 1 and 2 were composed of the district supervisors, principals, head teachers and TICs. Batch 3 was composed of all the secondary school heads and department heads. The trainings were scheduled as follows: Batch 1 April 9 – 11, 2002 36 participants Batch 2 April 10 – 12, 2002 37 participants Batch 3 April 11 – 13, 2002 31 participants ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Total 104 participants The mass training for teachers started on April 16, 2002 and ended on May 11, 2002. The teachers of the Elementary and Secondary Private Schools joined in the training. The principals of Cathedral School of La Naval and Naval Institute of Technology joined in the School Administrators Training. They were given topics to discuss the training. Teacher applicants were also invited to attend. They participated actively during the training. Some volunteered to conduct demonstrate teaching. The training handouts were prepared before the training. Meals were served in all the venues of the training. However, the teacher applicants and private school teachers brought packed lunch and snacks. Below is the Summary of the trained teachers and administrators. This excludes those coming from the private schools as well as the teacher applicants. (These will be reflected in the matrix attached to this report.):
Training Objectives: 1. Explain/Communicate the rationale, context, philosophy, features and conceptual framework of the RBEC; 2. Be familiar with the content of the old and new PELC/PSSLC; 3. Translate effectively the multiple intelligences to enhance individual teaching styles; 4. Gain knowledge, skills and orientation on Paradigm Shift; 5. Commit oneself to facilitate/apply interactive teaching/cooperative learning and integrative modes of teaching; 6. Acquire skills on Thematic Team Teaching in Makabayan; 7. Identify the qualities and skills of an effective trainor/facilitator; 8. Identify the qualities and behaviors of teachers that best motivate learners to learns; 9. Follow guidelines in the grading system for elementary and secondary level; and 10. Observe, enhance the demonstrators’ teaching on Interactive teaching and learning and Thematic Team Teaching in MAKABAYAN. Topics (For School

Planning of Training of Teachers For the 5-days Training of Teachers, the following sessions were added: 1. Motivation of Learners (Instead of Building Self Efficacy) 2. Demonstration Teaching in the MAKABAYAN, English, Science of Math (Instead of Planning of Training of Teachers) Due to the expressed difficulty in teaching MAKABAYAN using the thematic Integrative Mode of Teaching, this division conducted a write shop on May 15-17, 2002. Selected committed and competent teachers in both elementary and secondary levels attended this activity. The promotional staff facilitated this write shop. The output here was the Weekly Conceptual Organizer good for the first 10 weeks, starting June 17, 2002. The continuation of this was done in LAC or LEAP Sessions. Feedback from teachers revealed that this project was a great help to them in making their lesson plans using integrative modes of teaching. Participants Trained in RBEC by categories/positions
