Joss Whedon |
Birth: 23
June 1964
Nicknames: Joe
Education: Riverdale High, NY then transferred to
Winchester College, UK. Graduated Wesleyan
University of Connecticut with a Bachelor of Arts in Film Studies in 1987
Quirks: Married to Kai Cole and has a son,
Arden, born 2002. Lives in LA. First job was working in a video store.
Biography: A third generation scriptwriter, Whedon's
father (Tom Whedon - The Dick Cavett Show, Alice, Benson, The Golden
Girls) and grandfather (John Whedon - Leave It To Beaver) were also in the television screen scripting
business. Growing up in Manhatten, he first wrote for Roseanne and
then Parenthood. He was also asked to rewrite the Xmen movie
script, but editing was cut with only two jokes left in the final movie.
He co-wrote Toy Story and wrote and edited for other movie scripts.
His original script for Buffy the Vampire Slayer was shuffled
around for 3 years before being produced into a movie, where it was
extensively rewritten and flopped. A year later, he was given the chance
to make Buffy the Vampire Slayer into a television series where he
would be given complete creative control over his work, giving him a
chance not only to write, but to direct and produce. The series became a
cult hit and highly acclaimed series, winning numerous awards for the
acclaimed episodes such as The Body and musical Once More With
Feeling. The series ended in 2003. He also got a chance to co-create a
Buffy spin-off series called Angel in 1999, which was
cancelled in 2004. He first acted in Angel episode Through The
Looking Glass as Numfar. He also created an original series Firefly,
which was cancelled after one season. However, due to overwhelming fan
support and the DVD sales, he's been offered the chance to create a
Firefly film called Serenity, which he is currently working on.
