What is a deco?

Decos are a specific kind of friendship book, or FB for short. FB's are little hand-made booklets of paper that are passed around via snail mail (the postal system) by penpals and swappers. FB's are made for and by someone (it could be the same person). The person that it is made for: is the owner of the FB. When it is full, it is sent back to them. It is a real treat to receive a full FB home in the mail and see where all it has gone!
When you receive a regular FB, you add your address label and any additional information about yourself that you want others to know - your age/birthday, your wedding anniversary, number of kids, hobbies, what you swap, etc. You look through the book at other people's entries, and decide if there is anyone that you would like to write to or swap with; if so, you write down their address and then send them a letter or swap! Then you pass the FB on in a letter or envelope of FB's to one of your pals.
A deco FB has one main difference - instead of just adding your label, you decorate an entire page. People use a variety of materials - magazine pictures, real pictures, stickers, different kinds of paper, paints, rubber stamps, feathers, beads, etc. They can truly become a creative outlet, and the results can be amazing, especially when you receive back an entire booklet full of other people's work. In general, they take much more time than regular FB's, but many people think they're worth it! They also tend to be made more carefully out of better material (cardstock for covers is common).
