Quilting and fabric transport me into a world of color - a world alive with movement and interplay, light and darkness, creativity and substance. It gives me great joy to experiment and create in fabric. I have no official artistic credentials, just a love for color and fabric and texture. Although I have only recently begun quilting, in the past I have enjoyed various forms of needlework, and for many years worked with stained glass. My first quilt was a watercolor quilt, "Awake!" It was an absorbing and fascinating challenge, working with my "palette" of 2 inch squares and creating eddies of light and color and movement! I was enthralled! Next came "Inner Sanctum," a Bargello quilt in shades of ultramarine, purples, lavenders and greens - gilded with hints of gold. The colors spoke of harmony and inner calmness, a retreat into peacefulness and quiet. I've also been working with traditional quilting blocks. "Dancing Angels" is a traditional wall hanging - very soft and muted and completely hand quilted. All my life I have admired quilts, in awe of the tremendous amount of time and creativity required to "birth" one of these fabric creations... for quilting can truly be a labor of love. Quilts link us to the past and, as the art of qulting continues to be transformed by new streams of ideas and technologies, it will also be a part of our future. I value both its rich heritage and its bright tomorrow. I would also enjoy doing custom work. It would be fun and a challenge to interact with you to create something new, a special gift, a new idea. Please email me a deborahdyson@yahoo.com if you are interested in something you see on my site, or would like something custom made. Please come again. I would love to share my new creations with you. |
