Koblenz,
Germany
Koblenz
was the first city that I took on. This was to be a sample in my blaze
of days and places that we would travel to during this summer of '99
vacation. Excitement filled my senses entering the city. With camera in hand I was ready to try my untested
photography abilities. Brian was patient as I fumbled film and lens
caps while doing my best to capture the art of the city surrounding me.

Koblenz
is a beautiful city located where the Rhine meets the Mosel River.
Much of the city had been bombed heavily during WWII but has been restored
over the years. Looking at the hills surrounding Koblenz you can see
castles jutting from the tops of trees. It was very
impressive and I loved it! |

Festung
Ehrenbreitstein
Reaching
the upper level of Festung Ehrenbreitstein meant riding a lift chair. Not
being the bravest when it comes to heights I was more than excited
as the chair swung around from behind us and scooped us up to take up the
side of the mountain. I was excited and relieved when my feet hit
the cobblestones entering the memorial. |

My
feet couldn't carry me fast enough as I went tripping across the uneven
walks. Going closer to the wall overlooking Koblenz I clumsily
started to take pictures, my hands were shaking from excitement I just
couldn't believe this dream was real. I kept waiting for somebody to pinch
me but still there I was. Brian suggested I use the top of the wall
to steady myself so my pictures would come out better. |
The
memorial was recessed in a wall with red carnations lining the walk.
We waited as people were visiting in respect to their heritage.
After they were finished in their personal moments I snapped a few pictures
of the memorial. I didn't want to stand out but I did want to be able
to remember after my trip all the beautiful things places I
visited. |

This
statue was located on the point of Koblenz where the rivers meet. It was
absolutely huge! If you look at the people by the tents you can see
how tall this statue on top of the building really is. This picture
was taken from across the river looking down at it. Soon we would be
exploring the park at the river edge. While having lunch at an open cafe
on the riverfront we would enjoy our schnitzel and potatoes. Sipping
cokes (with no ice... why they don't serve ice in the cola is beyond me!)
we watched the rivers activities and relaxed. Soon we were ready to start
exploring again! |
Walking
along the river walk we saw giggling children gathered in front of the
outdoor puppet shows. Souvenir shops were plentiful as we meandered along
the river. There were well planned floral arrangements along the
tiers as well as large planters dripping with floral sprays. After a very
busy day of exploring and walking we know it's time to leave. Stacy waves
good bye to Koblenz as it gets late and we are getting ready to head back
to Hanau.
