Flensburg, Germany
Arriving at the northern border of Germany to Denmark we stopped at this picturesque city on the Baltic Ocean. Finding a hotel and quickly settling in we ventured into the downtown area for dinner at a local pub. The food was good and filling as we ate and then went exploring. Wandering the streets we spotted a camera shop where I would be stopping the following day to get some needed supplies. Continuing on towards the waterfront it became darker and it was very clear to me that would want to photograph this at sunrise. Trying my best to take note of what I wanted to take pictures of I laid out my route for the following morning as we strolled the streets. |
Returning to our hotel I tried to sleep but didn't want to sleep in so slept lightly waking at 4 AM I tried to wake Stacy and include her but she was sleeping soundly, I went over and woke Brian letting him know my plan so they wouldn't worry at my absence. I arrived at the water and waited as the sun came up, it was glorious... the colors of pink and purple turning blue. The darkness of the ships against the brilliant morning. And the swan swimming so serenely was reminding me that soon I'd be in Denmark and in search of another fairytale. This sunrise was more than I hoped for... I felt so small in such a fantastically beautiful world. | |
The sunrise gave way to a early morning blue sky as a wharf man rode his bike to work as I sat, still in awe of the morning and the sights I had just seen. Just when I thought I'd seen so much that my eyes couldn't hold anymore a miracle like this sunrise reaches me and causes me to sit in admiration of the world around me all over again. How could one person be so lucky I wondered to myself as I returned to the hotel to wake Stacy and Brian and tell them of my already extraordinary morning. |
Passing buildings I had seen the night before I wandered this city in the early hours. Looking up I again found the apartment building that I knew I'd want to live in if I were here forever... it had cherubs sculpted decorating the windows and wonderfully ornate supports for the balconies. |

This morning went quickly as I returned to the hotel. Looking down this curving street as the brick building followed in perfect harmony. The tall steeple from the church was my landmark to guide me to the hotel. I went up to see if anyone was stirring yet as I was anxious to share my morning discoveries. After a quick breakfast Brian and I returned to the streets while Stacy woke and got around for the trip to Denmark. The sky quickly clouded over and a light rain started to fall. We slowed a little as I was dragging him all over but when we spotted the photo shop we went inside and picked up my needed supplies. Then we wandered and talked getting to know each other better as we stopped outside of shops looking at the goods in the windows. The morning was passing and we needed to get headed for Denmark. Stacy was ready and we loaded the car saying goodbye to Flensburg with it's beautiful sunrise and early misty rains. |
