Westville
Of the HLHG membership those who attended
the Creek Indian War living history at Westville l850 included Ethan Gallo, Anne Burgamy, and myself. The weather was stifling hot and mosquitoes
turned out in greater numbers than the re-enactors, but as always,
despite the oppressive heat everyone enjoyed themselves very much. I
did not feel well and was about as uncomfortable as I've ever been at
an event, but I still enjoyed meeting old friends and catching up on
the news since we'd seen them last year.
We were very happy to see the improvements
the new director has made in the village. Miss Bobbie's house is
sporting a new coat of paint and is just beautiful. She fairly beamed
with pride and happiness showing us around and we were very happy for
her and for all the Westville staff. Our old friends, Marilyn and
Peggy, greeted us with open arms and big hugs as always.
The old Westville that was leaning, faded,
dusty, and dilapidated is being restored, one building at a time, to
its former stately glory. Preservation efforts are alive and well in
Westville 1850. A hearty congratulations to all who helped make this
transformation possible.
Until next year, I remain, humbly,
Victoria
