Masato, Senior Deputy Resident Representative of the Japanese International
Cooperation Agency (JICA), was awarded the "People's Health"
Medal of Viet Nam. During his three-year mission in Viet Nam, Masato
made contributions to important healthcare projects, including raising Bach
Mai Hospital's capacity, upgrading equipment for the Central Paediatrics

Libyan
ambassador receives VUFO medal Salem
Ali Salem Dannah, Secretary of the People's Bureau of Libya, has been
awarded "For Peace and Friendship Between Nations Medal",
in recognition of his devotion to friendly and cooperative relations between
Viet Nam and Libya. The medal, the most notable reward
of the Viet Nam Union of Friendship Organisations (VUFO), was presented to
him by VUFO General Secretary Tran Dac Loi in Ha Noi. As Secretary of
the People’s Bureau or Libyan Ambassador Extraordinary and
Plenipotentiary to Viet Nam for 8 years, Salem Ali Salem Dannah has been
involved in the VUFO’s activities and actively participated in
charity activities launched by the Viet Nam Fatherland Front and the Viet

Belgian
citizen honoured with Vietnamese medal Zenon
Kowal, Head of the Walloon-Bruxelles Delegation in Viet Nam, was presented
with the Vietnamese Medal for the Cause of Education. The distinction
was made in honour of Zenon's contributions to Viet Nam's education and
training service in the past four years. He contributed to the signing of a
cooperation agreement between the Association for the Promotion of Education
and Training abroad (APEFE) and the Vietnamese Ministry of Education and
Training on November 2 of 2002. He has helped carry out 21 education and
training-related projects, including those on the organisation of bilingual
classes, a cooperation project between the Ha Noi University of Foreign
Studies and the Mons-Hainaut, a project on business administration training
at some universities in Ha Noi and Ho Chi Minh City, a law training project
in Ha Noi and Ho Chi Minh City, and an IT training project in the Ha Noi

Giap and receive Unity medal Henri Martin and Raymonde Dien, members of the France-Viet Nam Friendship Society Central Committee, said it's a great honour for them to meet General Vo Nguyen Giap and be awarded a friendship medal during their visit to Viet Nam "For the cause of national great unity" by the Viet Nam Fatherland Front. Cuban
engineers honoured with medals The
Ministry of Transport and Communications presented Medals for the Cause
of Viet Nam's Transport to 35 Cuban engineers, who had participated in
the construction of Ho Chi Minh Highway. The Cuban engineers were awarded
for their creative labour and cooperation, which contributed to
strengthening the friendship and solidarity between the two countries.
Despite difficult terrain and severe weather hampering their working
conditions, they have fulfilled their tasks as consultants and supervisors
for the construction of more than 1,200 km of the highway (in the first
phase) over the past four years. The highway has been built along the Ho Chi
Minh Trail, linking the northern capital of Ha Noi with

President of the Japanese Peace Esperanto Association (JPEA), Mr. Hideo
Kumaki, was presented with the Vietnamese State's Friendship Medal
for half-a-century of devotion to friendship between the Japanese and
Vietnamese people. As an Esperanto professor and a member of the Japanese
Communist Party, Hideo Kumaki took part in the movement against the

Russian Ambassador to
German Expert Awarded Medal Hartmut Richard Gast, an expert from a German international development foundation (ZEL/DES/INWEnt) was awarded Vietnam's medal "For the Cause of Agriculture and Rural Development". Gast was director of the Vietnam-Germany co-operation programme on management of water, forest and land in Vietnam, which has been being carried out successfully since 1997. HelpAge International receives Viet Nam's medal HelpAge International (HAI), an organisation for the elderly, has been presented with the medal "For the Cause of Emancipation of Women " for its contributions to Vietnamese women's advancement. The conferment was held in Ha Noi with the participation of Ha Thi Khiet, President of the Viet Nam Women's Union, Todd Petersen, chief executive of HAI. Since 1997, HAI has assisted the Viet Nam Women's Union in taking care of the elderly and in raising their living standard.
