Highest Honour for Hawala The man said to have played a central role in rooting out alleged South African spies from Swapo during the liberation struggle has been conferred with Namibia's highest award - Grand Commander of the Order of Namibian Eagle First Class. Namibian Troops Receive UN Medals, Urged to Remain Committed Peacekeepers of the Namibian contingent serving with the United Nations Mission in Liberia (UNMIL) were proud recipients of the UN medals. The event took place in Sinje, Grand Cape County, west of Monrovia, where the troops are currently serving. In a statement read by the Commander-in-Charge of the Namibian contingent, Lt. Col. Erastus Kashopola, it was recalled that the South African Nation joined the UN peacekeeping mission in 1993, just three years after its independence in 1990. Deployed in Liberia in February, Col. Kashopola said the troops have the responsibility top secure and safeguard the western corridor of the country under chapter 7 of the UN resolution, which brought them to Liberia. With the strength of 860 personnel. Since their arrival, the troops have been attached to the Pakistani contingent is responsible for Sector II in UNMIL. The Namibian Commander also recorded that the current UNMIL Force Commander, Lt. Gen. Namibia Contingents Receive Medals The Namibian Contingent serving with the United Nations Mission in Liberia (UNMIL) were last weekend proud recipients of medals for their invaluable services to the peace keeping operations in Liberia. The occasion, held in Sienje, Grand Cape Mount County, sub-headquarters of the Namibian Contingent was graced by top officials of the UNMIL. The Namibian troops are under the command of Lt. Col. Ghana honors Namibian President Nujoma Western African country Ghana has honored Namibia's veteran President Sam Nujoma with the highest national award of the Companion of the Order of the Star of Ghana. Ghanaian President John Agyekum Kufuor decorated Nujoma, who ison a three-day state visit to the country, with the sash.
