(Comparing the Resurrection to a Sunrise)
My hand in front of my face
Is entombed in blackness, like my crucified Lord.
Shadows of the cross saturate body and soul.
Clouds of fear and despair prevail, until...
...Heaven un-dims one notch.
Objects appear, black shapes in a gray mist, signaling hope's awakening.
Glimpsing the fulfillment of my desire,
I frantically search to find the horizon.
Could this be?
All at once, jolted by a sliver of light that penetrates earth and sky,
I lunge backward and shade my eyes.
Doesn't death's gloom extinguish permanently?
My senses radiate as the power of light expands and intensifies
Swallowing...enveloping the night.
My heart pounds, drumming in rhythm with an excited, trembling earth!
Eyes, mind and soul rejoice in their illumination!
The vision is clear,
Victoriously ablaze!
Darkness defeated, life and light have won!
JESUS, THE SON, HAS RISEN!
