[Door opens]

Justin: "Jack."

Jack: "Hey. Justin, you're just in time. Good to see you again."

Justin: "Good to see you. Yeah, I'm glad I could get here a day early so you could show me around."

Jack: "Yeah. Listen, I'd like you to meet a very dear friend of mine. This is Brooke English. Brooke English, my new assistant D.A., Justin McCoy."

Brooke: "Oh, hi. Justin, nice to meet you."

Justin: "Very nice to meet you. You're the editor of the "Tempo" magazine. Yeah, I read your series on the impact that racial diversity had on the national identity. I just hope the policymakers in D.C. were paying attention."

Brooke: "Oh, I'm gratified that you are."

Jack: "Well, listen, I want to get Justin up to meet Judge Da Sica before she adjourns for the day, so-"

Brooke: "All right, well, I have to get back to my office." (She takes Jack to the side and they talk) Justin, it was very nice to meet you and good luck in your new job, really."

Justin: "Thank you very much."

Brooke: "Bye-bye."

Jack: "Bye. So, let me give you a little rundown on Judge Da Sica before we go."

Justin: "She's conservative, she's a man-eater, she's very tough on first-time offenders, and three strikes, you're on your way to Statesville."

Jack: "Just about sums it up."

Justin: "Then I'm ready."

Jack: "So you are."

Justin: "Listen, Jack-"

Jack: "Yeah?"

Justin: "I was wondering when you have some more time if you could talk me through the fine points of the Commonwealth vs. Clarkson case."

Jack: "Commonwealth vs. Clarkson? We don't go to a trial date for about another three months."

Justin: "I know, I know, I know. I'm just - I'm up to speed on all my current cases, and there's just something about the Clarkson deal that just doesn't make sense. And then the plea deal that was offered-"

Jack: "Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. Justin, you're going to have to let me get up to speed. What say we talk about this tomorrow morning at breakfast, huh?"

Justin: "All right."

Jack: "All right."

Justin: "Deal. I'll bring the case with me."

Jack: "Good enough. Tell me - are you always this prepared?"

Justin: "Wasn't that what you hired me for?"

Jack: "Well, yeah, that and your being first in your class and president of law review and every private firm in the United States trying to snap you up, yeah."

Justin: "Yeah, well, I could've gone in the private sector."

Jack: "So, tell me, why didn't you?"

Justin: "A chance to work with you. I couldn't pass that up."

Jack: "Oh, brother, you're saying all the right things, I'll say that. Now, let me return the flattery. Most of my new A.D.A.s, their first day, they're lost like babes in the woods."

Justin: "Well, being lost is not an option, not for me anyway."

Jack: "Well, I think we're going to be just fine, then."

Justin: "I think we're going to make a great team."

Jack: "Think I better watch out for my job."

Justin: "Hell, yeah."

Jack: "Yeah. Let's see how many rounds you can go with Judge Ca Sica first, all right?"

Justin: "All right."

[Jack's phone rings]

Jack: "Oh. Never fails. Excuse me." (End of scene)
