While Aigle was situated in a valley, the out-of-season ski resort we were staying in - Torgon - was situated only a couple of kilometres away as the crow flies, but a good kilometre up vertically as well. It took us a good half hour to negotiate the hairpin bends up and down the mountain-side every day. The road was quite narrow as well, with sickening drops to the side and often no crash barrier. The photo on the right is not only getting near to our apartment, but also getting near to the cloud line.

The photo below shows one of the triangular apartment blocks in Torgon and it's precipitous location -  the town on the valley floor in the distance is Aigle. We didn't get such a nice view from our place unfortunately, but it did us just fine, apart from the "entertainment" booming up from three storeys below. This appeared to consist of a greasy haired man playing the organ and singing "The Girl from Ipanema" every night.
The other photo (right) shows the impending mountainside from the valley bottom at twilight. I took it because of the factory perched halfway up on a ledge. I never found out what was made there but it seemed an odd place to stick a factory. There must be some reason why it is where it is, some sort of advantage aiding the production of whatever it produces but I have no idea what that might be.
