St Ives, Cornwall has to be one of my favourite places on Earth. A town full of narrow streets and alley ways, artists studios, and (last time I counted) seven sandy beaches. The Cornish peninsula has stood up to the Atlantic over the millenia thanks to it's granite headlands. This, in turn, weathers and produces wide quartz-rich sandy beaches and therefore a beautiful blue sea. The quality of light here has attracted a steady stream of artists over the years. Looking out at the lichen covered rooftops at the milky blue horizon, it isn't difficult to see why. |
