An old army observation point overlooks the Wash at Gibraltar Point and you can still spot the present day bombing targets across the water. These days the post is converted into a bird hide. A flock of several thousand lapwing had arrived and had stationed themselves along the mudflats as I scanned the horizon.
Walking back out along the beach, you really have to remind yourself how close you are to the seediness of Skegness. I could point my camera in that direction and not see the lights from a single arcade (below). I could have been miles from anywhere. |
