The photos in these pages were taken in Easter 2005. Click on a photo to see a slightly larger version. Living in Derbyshire is about as far away as you can get from the sea in the British Isles, so when we come to Ireland, one of the first things we do is head straight for the long sandy stretches at Mullaghmore in County Sligo. Mullaghmore, when we first visited together, was big with the Germans who were buying up property left, right and centre. So much so that road signs were in English, Irish and German. Now it seems to be the Northern Irish who are colonising the area and the Germans have all but vanished. There's a bit of a rowdy element here, especially in the evening, which is a shame because it is a lovely village set on a peninsula, complete with cows on the beach and a retired nuns home. Eithna's fish restaurant does lovely food with the local catch (the harbour is across the road), but it is a bit pricey. I have always liked the mural on the front of Eithna's but have always forgotten to snap it... until now. An earlier Mullaghmore page of mine is here |
