Here are the stories of when I was lucky enough to meet David.
Both times it occured at a VSDA (Video Software Deale's Association) convention in Las Vegas, where I live. At these conventions, celebrities often come to promote there videos that are coming out. They do meet-and-greets, sitting at a table while people line up to meet them, get their autograph, and take photos with them. It's really fun!

The first I ever went to was in the summer of 1998. I was really excited to see that David was going to be there to promote the release of 'Johns' on video, because I have always liked him. My friend Jenn and I weren't sure what to expect, because whenever we had seen him on TV, he was really spastic. When he came out though, we could tell that he was anything but! He was extremely sweet and almost seemed sorta shy! When it was my turn to meet him, I told him how much I loved him in the 'Scream' movies and that I also really liked him in 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer', which I think made him a little embarrased! He signed my picture: "Ashley - thanks" and his trademark peace sign, heart, and smiley face before his name. Then Jenn took my camera and David got up and walked around the table so that he could stand up next to me for a picture. It was really exciting!
The next time I went was the summer of 2000. My sister and I went the first day of the convention and were so thrilled to see that David was appearing again - this time to promote 'Ready to Rumble'. I guess David was the Master of Ceremonies and cut the ribbon to begin the convention, but somehow we missed that! We got in line to meet him. Frankie Munitz (from 'Malcom in the Middle') was finishing up at the same place where David was signing. David showed up and he and Frankie talked for awhile while the press took pictures. I was an even bigger fan of David at this time, as 'Never Been Kissed' is now one of my favourite movies. Again, David was super nice and shy. I told him that I had been lucky enough to meet him 2 years ago, which he thought was pretty cool.

I also told him how happy I was that he won the Blockbuster Award and that made him really happy, I could tell he really appreciated it.Of all the celebrities that I have met, David will always be one of my favourites - he is so kind and really humble - you can tell that being a star hasn't gone to his head. He really seemed more like Deputy Dewey than any of the crazy characters he has portrayed. I can't wait until the next convention to see if he shows up again!
