I'm sure most of you Palm users have heard of AvantGo, the app which downloads specific web pages onto your Palm. I tested out AvantGo a few years ago when it first came out, but found the AvantGo browser had a few bugs (html links didn't seem to work sometimes), it was slow to HotSync, and there were very few web pages designed specifically for AvantGo.
I recently took a look at the latest version of AvantGo, and it appears to be much improved, and it's still free!
Improvement Hightlights:
- More web "channels" for downloading info on your Palm
- You can update your Palm's web channels by using a modem and an Internet connection (you don't need to HotSync with your PC)
- There is greater control on how and what you want to download to your Palm (Web-based control form)
- You can supply a web page address to download a page on-the-fly while connected to the Internet
Remember, the more channels you select for downloading the bigger your AvantGo database file will be on your Palm. If you need more room on your Palm RAM, you might check out the FlashPro app (which loads apps into the Palm's unused FlashROM).
- Simple bugs found in the older version are now fixed.
Below are a few screen shots of Avantgo running on my Palm V:
