NEW VOY drabble: The Examination for Lieutenant (26/?) PG [K] Title: The Examination for Lieutenant (26/?) Author: Dave Rogers Email Address: daverogers@geocities.com Series: VOY drabble Rating: PG Codes: K Part: 26/? Date Posted: 1 November 2000 Summary: Coda to "Drive". Keeping the peace has its rewards. Disclaimer: Keeping Paramount in the dark doesn't seem very honourable. Acknowledgement: Jim Wright's "Delta Blues" website, for background material. Author's note: The title of these drabbles is taken from C. S. Forester's short story of the same name, for which I make no apologies. It's what Terry Pratchett once described as "tipping the hat". The Examination for Lieutenant: After the Race Janeway smiled at Harry. "Well, Ensign, it looks like you've averted another hundred years of war." "Thank you, Captain. But saving Tom and B'Elanna's lives mattered more." "All the same, this sort of thing deserves a big reward. Something like, say, a pip on your collar." It was almost pathetic to see Harry's naive, puppy faced grin. Did the poor boy never learn? "So," continued Janeway, "We'll forget the charge of aiding and abetting a terrorist, which is a dismissable offence. You can keep your ensign's pip." As he left, crushed, Janeway wondered: When did I start to enjoy this? THE END
