The Examination for Lieutenant: While the Kat's Away



Paris entered the ready room. 

"Busy?"

"What's on your mind?" replied Chakotay.

"The away team. The plan was to give them two hours. It's been two and 
a half."

"The Doctor's keeping an eye on them. We'll give it a little more time."

"Unfortunately, not everything goes according to plan. You know, it 
occurs to me that, with you in command and Tuvok off the ship, that makes 
me acting first officer, technically speaking."

"What's your point?"

"Well, the acting second officer really should be promoted to Lieutenant."

Chakotay pondered, then nodded. "I think we should recall the away team."
