The Examination for Lieutenant - year 6a.


Janeway and Chakotay stood face to face, hands on phasers, eyes 
narrowed in mutual distrust, in the darkness of Cargo Bay Two.

"Tell her what you told me, Seven," said Chakotay. "About the 
Starfleet conspiracy."

"Starfleet conspiracy?" Janeway snorted. "What about your Maquis 
mission?"

"Both fabricated," interrupted Seven. "I was compelled to lie. 
Anywhere but here, we might be overheard by the true culprit - 
Lieutenant Harry Kim of Starfleet Intelligence, posing as an Ensign 
aboard Voyager."

"Lieutenant Kim?" Janeway and Chakotay spoke together, incredulously.

"Seven," began Janeway, relaxing now, "I think it's time we checked 
your cortical implant for malfunctions."
