Amy Biehl: Model of Faith On August 25th, 1993, 26 year old Amy Biehl was murdered in South Africa at the hands of anti-apartheid militants. While driving through Capetown, South Africa, her vehicle was surrounded by young men. They pulled her from the car, and beat and stabbed her to death, while all the while chanting, "One Settler, One Bullet."
It had been clear from an early age, that Amy Biehl would be quite successful, regardless of what pursuit she chose to dedicate her life to. She decided she wanted to attend Stanford University, and maintained an A average throughout grade school and high school. While attending Stanford, she became obsessed with the civil rights movement in Africa at the time, particularly the battle against apartheid in South Africa. Not long after graduating from college, Amy went to South Africa, and began working with the youth of some of the poorest areas in the world around the Cape Town area. She was one of the most active proponents of ending apartheid.
Amy Biehl is a fantastic example of faith, in that she went into a very unknown situation to her, and was determined to change the society in which she had entered. She did not display, fear or doubt, but rather she showed tremendous faith in the ability of man to adapt and change, and to become better and more loving than they were.
The Amy Biehl Foundation today, is run by her mother, and works actively in South Africa, to provide education, and end poverty in South Africa; poverty which has led to the world's highest murder rate.
