MONEY FOR DOING NOTHING? It's true. There are companies that will actually reward you for letting them use your extra computer resources to help them in their projects. Porivo is seeking users from all over the world. If you're connected to the internet at least 4 hours/day, then this is your program. As stated on their site, "After you install the Porivo PEER, it will recognize that your computer is on and you are connected to the Internet. The Porivo PEER runs in the background of your computer, processing work that is assigned to it by our servers--all without you having to tell it what to do!"
Note that not everyone who signs up and downloads the PEER program will be automatically accepted as a paid user. "To be paid, Porivo will select applicants based on their geography, Internet connection type (dialup, DSL, T1) and online availability. Right now, Porivo is looking for PEERs from all over the world with different connection types. All connection types are needed, so even if you have a dialup connection (14.4, 28.8, 36.6 or 56K), apply today! Porivo will review your application and notify you of your Account Status via e-mail within 10 business days of receiving your application."

Here's my November payment from Porivo:
And here's my December payment from Porivo....
You must sign up as a member of PayPal as that is the only payment service used. The monthly minimum payout level is only $5. You also get $1 per referral. Plus there are no ads to click, nothing to do. Just let Porivo run in the background. You can even let it run overnight as long as you have a steady internet connection. You can even run it on multiple computers to increase your earnings.
The second company is United Devices. The payout is in the form of entries into daily and month money and gift prizes. The real special thing about UD is that you are helping in the research to fight cancer. Intel is sponsoring the The Intel-United Devices Cancer Research Project that does "research to uncover new cancer drugs through the combination of chemistry, computers, specialized software, and organizations and individuals who are committed to fighting cancer." Other projects being performed are Web Performance Testing by Exodus and genetic research using HMMER. So not only is it for a great cause, but you can also opt to have your points count towards a donation to the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
Just as with Porivo, just register and download the program. It operates quietly in the background, even as a screen-saver.
