2000 was a brutal year in "Pay To Surf" land, and the pain continues in 2001.
SurfingPrizes.com DEAD! - SurfingPrizes bites the dust! Gone into bankruptcy and promising to pay whatever is left over in 2001 after liquidation and paying off their creditors (don't hold your breath). Too bad, cuz I really liked this one.
VirtuAds.com DEAD! - Another program that never made it out of the beta stage. The site was auctioned off on eBay. Yeah.... pathetic.
Surfing2Cash DEAD! - Going, going, gone! Goodbye! This one sucked from the beginning.
mValue.com DEAD! - Officially pronounced dead on September 29, 2000. After six months of promising payments and then switching its business model to a daily sweepstakes (the same thing AllAdvantage did), they close the doors saying they have no money to pay anybody.
Jotter.com DEAD! - Going, going.... gone. Died September 30, 2000. Very popular pay 2 surf program that was purchased by another company and discontinued its program. Luckily, the viewbar never worked on my computer when I signed up a few months ago, so I didn't waste too much time on them.
oneSRC.net DEAD! - Informed the public on November 2nd that they are going belly up. As noted in their email, "There is no market for Pay to Surf companies at present." Another company stiffs the public. Goodbye.
BearCatOnline.com GOOD AS DEAD - While there's been no official proclamation of death, there hasn't been a pulse either in the past 8 months, and I consider that DEAD. The website looks like a high school site. The BearCat is a high school mascot. And there's no ads on the viewbar. UPDATE: (May 2002) - This site has re-invented itself as a search engine. Sure, it's a piece of crap search engine, but at least they no longer falsely promise to pay anyboby for anything, and they also got rid of the idiotic high school bearcat logo.
QuickClickCash DEAD! - The website was finally updated on Jan. 24, 2001 after a couple months of nothingness to notify the public that they were dead. They say they'll be paying members due over $35 in the future once advertisers pay them... but (again) don't hold your breath.
AllAdvantage.com DEAD! - The mother of all paid surfing programs was King of the Hill entering the year 2000. They were riding high on the internet craze and even anticipated having an IPO. Then the crash came, and AA limped out of the year beaten like a dead horse. They are now officially pronounced dead as of February 1, 2001. Looks like this graveyard list is going to get a lot longer from hereon...
Luckily, I was able to squeeze out one last paltry check from them in December. Unfortunately, they must've stiffed thousands of people waiting for their next check.
Free2net.com DISCONTINUED - Free2Net changed formats effective January 5th, discontinuing its "pay to surf" program and paying only a commission for new referrals now. I received a $30 check from them last year, and a $25 e-certificate this past month. While they are an honest company with integrity, their new payment program is not a feasible moneymaker, IMO. For that reason, I will be putting this program into the graveyard. I wish the company good luck, but fear they'll be dotcom history like the rest of them.
Here's the Free2Net gift certificate. I chose a Borders book store gift card and received it in the mail within in a week.
CompuBank.com DEAD - A leading internet bank that created a buzz by offering $20 to new accounts and $40 referral rewards a couple years ago. Somehow they figured out that giving away money wasn't such a great business plan. Facing a severe money crunch, they recently sold all their online accounts to NetBank. Unfortunately, they have yet to still officially inform their CompuBank account holders of the changes. NetBank hasn't bothered to inform their new account holders of the change either. I had to read about that transaction on CNET news.
CashWars DEAD - Finally closed their doors in May, 2001. This one was always a favorite program. The game element was enticing and even addictive, but when all was said and done, hardly anyone got a penny out of them.
Desktop Dollars DISCONTINUED/DEAD - Things smelled fishy when they sent out a letter saying they couldn't pay back in March. Now they've announced they're ending the pay to surf program and anyone short of the minimum payout levels by July 1, 2001 is out of luck. Unfortunately, I'm sure everyone who's already owed money (like me) is out of luck as well. They say they'll pay everyone who's due by June, 2002. A one year cushion to either declare corporate bankruptcy or escape to Mexico.
ePilot DISCONTINUED - "ePilot Is Discontinuing Its Member Incentive Program... effective September 1, 2001." ePilot calls it quits as a paying program (and I use the term "paying" very lightly), but will continue as a search engine -- good luck! They claim they will pay everyone due money in September -- everybody get ready for the "You've been terminated" emails. They owe me $265. How about you?
Lunartic.com GONE but who cares?
radiofreecash.com VANISHED They made a big splash nearly 2 years ago, promising to pay for listening to web radio. Instead, they stiffed people on tens of thousands of "Free CDs," reinvented themselves as a monthly radio sweepstakes contest, then eventually took their remaining money and disappeared.
epipo DISCONTINUED After 2 1/2 years of not paying anyone, they've decided to end the cruel joke on its members. But in one final tease, they are promising to pay everyone who is due more than $24.00 as of Feb 1, 2002. This isn't the 1st time a disappearing company has promised payments (and it won't be the last), but again, don't hold your breath. I HAVE NEVER BEEN PAID by a dead program. Have you? Anyway, I'm owed nearly $80, so let's see how it goes. Miracles do happen, right? LOL
PayBar.com DISCONTINUED PAYMENTS - Sure if you want to be technical about it, it's difficult to discontinue payments when you never made them in the 1st place. Anyway, they did a Pearl Harbor job on its users, fittingly on December 7, 2001. Cya.
