Argument for God's Existence

Many people come up with logical and realistic arguments to how the universe came to be using science and evolution and that there is no "God." However, other people believe in God's existence not just with Faith, but with their own logical and realistic arguments. These people are teleoligists because the try to show that the universe was purposefully created by God. They also try to protect their Faith by using scientific evidence, or apologetics.

William Paley's argument

William Paley believes that the human body is too complex, yet works too well together to not be designed that way. He explains this through his watch analogy. If a watch was in the middle of a forest and was found by someone who never saw a watch before, he would believe that someone designed that watch. The watch is so different from its surroundings and its design is so complex, yet it still functions perfectly with no problems. Much like people, our design is not simple, it shows thought and intelligent design to live and thrive. Someone meant for us to be how we are. The human body is so different from the universe around us, and our organs and blood vessels can work together without killing us. except for the appendix, he wanted to be a third lung, but he missed try outs. He was promised a spot on the kidney team, but decided not do anything.
That's a really fancy watch

The Moral Argument for God's Existence

People say "patience is a virtue." Other virtues include courage, modesty, and ect. But where exactly do we get these virtues? People only reckonize these good virtues and not the bad ones like laziness and such, people only notice and desire the good ones. These great virtues are bestowed upon us as gifts from a higher power.

The Golden Ratio

The golden ratio is a ratio that can be found throughout nature occurring with different things in no particular pattern. The ratio is rounded off at 1:1.618. such comparisons are the length of a human's legs to the length of his torso and the ratio of male to female bees in a beehive. Some say this is a coincidence, but because both comparisons are are close to the decimal rather than a definite integer, make other people believe otherwise. Artists from the Renaissance use this ratio in painting their people because they believed it was the pure ratio. This reoccurring ratio shows that someone intended for it to show up again and again in nature. This design shows intelligence of a higher power because the probability of this playing out this way on its own, is almost impossible.

The Anthropic Principle

this probability along with the probability of other scenarios, contribute to the Anthropic Principle, or the chance that the universe accidentally came to be. Which makes sense on a certain level: there was a big bang and big rocks started orbiting a big star. However, what if earth formed slightly farther away from the sun? We would not be able to survive. Lets say that the earth did orbit the sun at a distance that could support life, however, if the air composition was different or water distribution was different, humans still would have never lived. Even the chemical properties of hydrogen would have to meet the qualifications for life. If ice did not have the bouyancy to float above water and instead froze at the bottom, the world would still be frozen over, killing us all. So all of these restrictions would had to have happened for support of human life. This website has more information on this.

Kalam's Argument

people say that the world was created by the big bang. Kalam's argument claims that nothing can create itself. So the big bang must have been caused by something, the universe could not have created itself. A plant cannot grow if something or someone does not plant it, much less create the seed. Kalem then says that something from a higher power must have created the universe.

Pascal's Wager

Pascal's Wager seems to questions atheists with a why not. Why not believe in someone if He is promising so much if you follow Him, there is no risk. If you believe in Him and follow Him, you will be rewarded if He does exist. Even if you are wrong, nothing happens. Same if you do not believe. If God doesn't exist, and you didn't believe, then congratulations, you win nothing. And if you don't believe and He does exist, then I do not think He would be very happy. Overall, Believe in God, because the best you can do if you are an athiest, is absolutely nothing.

Plato and Aquinas

These two philosophers thought that there must be a perfect. there must be some degree of perfection. By this they mean that things can exist better than others. For instance, at the bottom is inanimate objects like a rock. A rock is pretty sweet because you can throw them at trees, buildings, windows, your friends, or even other rocks, but they are only matter. Plants and vegetation are next up on the the perfection ladder because not only are they matter, they are also alive. They can grow, function, and die (especially if you throw enough rocks at them). But one thing animals can do that plants can't is have emotion. If I throw a rock at a tree, it probably would not appreciate it but I would not know. If I threw a rock at a dog, on the other hand, it would probably bite me because I hurt its feelings. Humans really beat animals. Not only are we alive, but we can have free will, abstract thought, love, and a conscience. Animals are controlled by their instinct and we have the ability to think through our decisions. But Humans couldn't possibly be the top of the ladder. We can be wrong about things and we do not have the best ability to love each other with all that war and destruction. So according to the hierarchy, there must be something more perfect than humans.

Conclusion

Overall, Man needs a meaning for why he exists. We do not want to be alone and we want to be happy. And if somebody is offering us happiness and not lonliness after we die, we would be foolish not to try to please Him so we could be with Him. Furthuremore, God even if you are not out there, you're still the man.
