Rain Man (1990) |
A modern classic. "Rain Man" is excellent on all counts. It's story is touching, and thought-provoking. Tom Cruise and Dustin Hoffman BOTH steal the show, giving us two of the greatest performances ever. Barry Levinson's direction is great and this is undoubtedly his best film. One of my all-time favorites. |

A wonderfully, original, clever film. Pleasantville is a wonderful fantasy that's often funny and even manages to be touching. The performances are great - everybody from old-timers like Joan Allen, William H. Macy and Jeff Daniels, to promising newcomers like Reese Witherspoon and Tobey Maguire, everybody's excellent. Pleasantville's only flaw is its editing - the movie ruins on for too long and gets repetetive - but overall it's a fun, pretty to look at, and a very enjoyable film. |

A Simple Plan (1998) |
An extraordinarily engrossing film, "A Simple Plan" is easily one of the greatest thrillers of all time. Sam Raimi manages to make a very original movie based on a story that's as old as the world itself. The performances are great, Billy Bob Thorton is excellent and Bill Paxton and Bridget Fonda are great. The writing is sharp and the plot twists are stunning. "A Simple Plan" is one of the most entertaining films I've seen but it also delivers an excellent message. One of the best films of 1998. |
