Croupier (2000) |

Clive Owen stars as Jack Manfred, a cold, calculated, detached writer-cum-croupier in Mike Hodges return to gritty British cinema. As the story of a man watching, rather than participating in his life, and narrating from the outside the film is a fascinating, taut, exciting and intelligent character driven drama/thriller. And Clive Owen gives one of the best performances of 2000. |

Fallen (1998) |

A suprisingly good thriller with one hell of an ending Fallen gave me the biggest smile in some time come it's extremely clever denouement. A simple tale, turned quite complicated of a cop being chased by an unkown force that's been around since the dawn of man. Denzel Washington is good, though he has been better, as the cop with a heart of gold protagonist, and the supporting cast especially John Goodman and in a scene stealing role Elias Koteas are excellent. I repeat, this ending packs quite a wallop. |
