Summary:

A suite of programs trace rays through large, complex, gridded 2d velocity structures using a workstation or supercomputer. Velocity is specified by a usp data set. Rays start at points of an xsd segment. The starting direction for the propagation of rays can be included as extra columns of the xsd segment file or can be computed by the program. The programs can be found in the following directory at APC:

/explprod/phase1/usp/bin

Ray Tracing Programs:

time2depth - traces rays downward from the surface to the depth where travel time is equal to surface arrival time.

time2depth_ray - same as time2depth except it outputs ray paths

depth2time - traces rays upwards from a segment to the surface and reports the travel time from the segment.

depth2time_ray - same as depth2time except it outputs ray paths.

Programs for dealing with xsd segments:

xsdsmooth - smooths xsd segments using tichinov regularization. Segments with multiple values at the same location can be smoothed using this smoother. Circles and loops are allowed.

xsdfill - adds more points between pairs of points in xsd picked segments. Vertical segments are allowed.

xsdcheck - verifies the syntax of an xsd segment file.
