1. What is the one key idea of this chapter. pay attention to the title of the chapter!
The main key idea is the relationship between God and us. God made a relationship with the Israelites (the new covenant), and God intends to create a special relationship with every individual. God also made a covenant with Abraham because He chose him to be a leader and to spread His Word. Also, Pentecost shows a relationship between God and his followers becuase when the disciples were in a time of need, God helped them and gave them gifts from the Holy Spirit like courage to deepen their relationship.
2. Write about two major ideas you want to remember. Write a short paragraph on each clearly stating the idea and then telling why you want to remember it.
One major I want to remember is Passover. Passover is very important because the Israelites had to trust God by listening to Him, and then God would save them from the Egyptians. The Israelites listened to God, and they were saved by God's angel of death who killed every first-born Egyptian and even killed Pharaoh's son. To prevent death, the Israelites smeared blood from a lamb on their doorpost and ate the lamb's flesh. They trusted God, and the Israelites relationship was strenghtened with God. I wanted to remember Passover because I think it's one of the most important events in Israelite history, and I think it was an event that proved God's power and the Israelites trust in God.
Another major event I want to remember is Pentecost. At Pentecost, the apostles were scared becuase of Jesus' death and didnt know what to do. They were cowering in a corner of a building. But with the power of God, the Holy Spirit came down on the apostles and gave them courage to spread the Word of God. I wanted to remember this event because it's very significant because it showed how powerful God really is by giving the apostles courage to spread the Word of God.
3. One image that captures the chapter for you.
4. One significant question you have from this chapter. It can be intellectual or personal. Just write out the question. Try to answer it if you want.
Can one be a Christian if he doesn't go to Mass regularly or pray regularly?
5. Chapter 1 What experiences in your freshman year brought you closer to Jesus? Explain.
There are many experiences that brought me closer to Jesus. First, Direction Day was a great experience becuase it was the first time to get to know my classmates and reach out to meet new people. Also, the Freshmen Retreat was an amazing experience that brought me closer to God. It was the first ever Freshman Retreat at SLUH, and it allowed me and the others to develop and open relationship with God with each other. I also think that our freshman weekly prayer service was a great oppprtunity to reflect on the upcoming week and have to time to listen to God and pray. Listening to all the teachers' speeches was a learning experience because it allowed me to see Jesus in others ad think about how I can improve as a human being. I also enjoyed the SLUH Masses where we celebrate Mass with the entire SLUH community. Mass brings me closer to Jesus becauseI can pray to be a better person and reflect on events in my life and ask for forgiveness.
