The Champions League is an inter-divisional tournament featuring the best teams from the top divisions in MFLS. Eighteen divisions signed up for the 2007 Champions League. The tournament will begin week 18 (tournament schedule). At the conclusion of week 17 (a few days after scores are posted), the "champions" will be determined. At that time, the team at the top of the table in each participating division will receive a CL berth. Additional "at large" berths will be given to the remaining teams in participating divisions that have the highest MFLS scores. In the event of a tie in division standings or MFLS scores, the most recent weekly score will be used to break the tie. If necessary, preceding weeks will be used until the tie is broken.
MFLS points will be used directly for scoring throughout the tournament. The tournament will begin with group play. Qualified teams will be placed into 4 draw pools depending on if they were the division "champion" and depending on MFLS rank. Teams will then be randomly drawn from those pools into 8 groups consisting of 4 teams. Every team will play its 3 group opponents once on a round-robin basis. A Win will be worth 3 points in the group standings, while a Tie will be worth 1 point and a Loss worth 0 points in the standings. The top 2 teams from each group will advance to the elimination rounds. In cases where there is a tie in standings points; the first tie breaker will be point differentials (points scored minus points scored against), the second tie breaker will be the total points scored during the three group matches, and if a tie still remains total MFLS points scored on the season will be used.
Teams advancing into the elimination rounds will be placed in a bracket depending on group standings (A1 vs B2, B1 vs A2, etc...). Elimination rounds will proceed as two-leg contests in which the team with the higher aggregate score advances. The Champions League Final will consist of a single game. Tie breakers for the elimination rounds and the Final will be used in the following order; goals scored, goals allowed by the goal keeper, assists, +/-, clean halves, and if all else fails total MFLS points scored on the season will be used.
Scores will be posted and made official the day before the MFLS deadline for the following week's rosters. Any scoring corrections by MFLS that take place during head to head cup competitions will be used only if they are made by that time. Corrections made after that will not be used to change the outcome of a match.
**Failed to reach the minimum division size for the CL. Division is not entitled to an automatic berth, members must qualify via at-large berths. |
