Every two
years, our Girl Scout Unit does a city wide World
Thinking Day Event. On the Off years, troop either
celebrate it within their troops or with other troops. Here is what we are doing and have done. World Thinking Day 2005 - City wide event. Our Unit will have a WTD event in early March where all Girl Scouts will come with passports in hand. Everyone will have the opportunity to visit countries from around the world. Japan, Mexico, Germany and a Girl Scout history booth and so much more. Our Daisy Troop will be hosting the Germany Booth as well as a Mascot booth. I contacted our sister troop in Germany and told them what we were doing. Tom, the Daisy leader in Germany sent a huge box of German stuff and information. I also contacted travel agencies in New York, LA and Germany, hoping that at least one of them would send me old posters and travel books. THEY ALL sent us stuff. Our troop, took a couple of the travel books we received from the agencies and cut pictures out and pasted them on poster board. We have sampled a Germany drink made with Coke and orange pop. We will bake pretzels to serve at the booth, we'll have face painting done by a local artist. Tourist will be able to fish the Rhein river for real German candy. They will be able to play a Barbie game written in German and pick up the German flag. We also made 300 swaps that look like tunics that we will give away to all tourist that visit our booth. World Thinking Day 2004 - This was my first year as a leader and I tried hard to do everything. The girls and I made a World Thinking Day poster, we wrote pen pal letters to 27 different troops, we had cake and punch and played games. We listened to German girls say the promise and the months of the year. We sent to Germany a taped interview of each of us, we traded meeting plans for a day, swaps, candy and more. World Thinking Day is a day to reflect on all the Girl Scouts from around the world. Do whatever works for your troop. |
Be sure to join in on the fun! We currently have nearly 250 leaders,
co-leaders and helpers on the board. The best resource for Daisy
Girl Scouts. This board was developed by us
but is now maintained by a wonderful group of Girl Scout Leaders.
It's free to join and your info is never sold or given away.
