PREPARING THE GEARBOX

Take out the oil cooler pipes (don't forget to plug the ends to keep them clean). Disconnect gear change cables, speedo cable, clutch slave cylinder, the various electrical cables on top of the gearbox. It's worth while taking off the starter motor while your at it. At the connection between the transfer box and the prop shaft is a cover secured by 4 bolts, undo these and remove the cover,(you'll need a "G" clamp to put it back as it springs out slightly). You need to do this because the engine has to be pushed forward slightly to get the best position for gearbox removal, and when this happens the prop shaft slips out, so be ready to catch it.

In the centre photo, you can see the scissor jack I used to ease the engine forward (the same one that was temporarily supporting the gearbox).
