Master cylinder A motorcycle mechanic once told me that if you had trouble with bleeding brakes, it was worth trying this. Cable tie the brake lever back, and leave overnight. I guess the idea is that with the valve open, any air in the upright pipe will find its way out. I found that leaving it a couple of hours was useful. The other thing I found was that by having all the bleeding pipe & reservoir above the bleed nipple, it made the whole operation much easier. Also, by having clear bits you can see what's happening.
