Breckinridge County Kentucky
Welcome To the KYGenWeb Project

Breckinridge County was formed on January 1, 1800 from Hardin County. Prior to 1800, records for this area would be found in Hardin County. The county was named for Attorney General John Breckinridge. Meade County was formed out of eastern Breckinridge County in 1824, later Hancock county was formed out of Breckinridge's western border in 1829. If your ancestor's family suddenly disappears about the time of these counties being created, their records, perhaps, may be found in one of these newly formed counties. Sometimes people just seem to disappear from where you are researching, always check the bordering counties to see if they just moved down the road or a little further along a waterway. Here are Breckinridge County's bordering neighbors: Perry Co., IN; Meade Co., KY; Hardin Co., KY; Grayson Co., KY; Ohio Co., KY; and Hancock Co., KY. Check these counties out from time to time for new clues in your research!

The KYGenWeb Project
-
In March and April, 1996, a group of genealogists organized the Kentucky Comprehensive Genealogy Database. The idea was to provide a single entry point for all counties in Kentucky, where collected databases would be stored. In addition, the databases would be indexed and cross-linked, so that even if an individual were found in more than one county, they could be located in the index.
At the same time, volunteers were found who were willing to coordinate the collection of databases and generally oversee the contents of the web page.
My name is John G. West the person responsible for Breckinridge County. If you would like to contribute your information to this page, please let me know. If you would like to volunteer for other counties in Kentucky, please contact Sherri Hall KYGenWeb State Coordinator.
