Introduction/Prelection
1) This first week of Mr. Scuito's theology class we discussed the difference between fact, belief, and opinion. We came to the conclusion that: Fact is something indisputible. It is something that everyone knows is right, something that has been proven over and over again over the years. Belief is very well thought out. There is many reasons to support a belief. An opinion is what you think. It is what you would say if someone asked you a question in which you had three seconds to answer. It is what comes off the top of your head so to speak. We discussed fact, belief, and opinion in order to discern the meaning of truth. Truth is important. As the prep news says, "If nothing else value the truth." Truth is what is real, what is fact, what is belief, and what is opinion. All three fact, belief, and opinion have the potenial to be truth. Truth is what all philosphers seek.
2) List and explain three of the most important ideas you want to remember from this week:
a. Metanoia: There is three parts to metanoia. 1)Metanoia is a change of mind and heart. It is a change in what you think and what you feel. 2)Metanoia is a change that moves you away from selfishness, ignorance, and sin. 3)Metanoia is a change that moves you toward love, truth, and grace.
b. Socrates says that, "the unexamined life is not worth living." If we live our lives without care and without examination of who we are and who we will become the we will fail. If we examine our lives and ourselves and the way we treat others then we will triumph.
c. Aristole says that there are two kinds of people. He says that people are like boats on and ocean. Most people are boats that are rudderless. They drift whereever the ocean takes them. The second kind of person is one that is the captain of its ship who steers that ship in his direction.
3)Dion Sanders: Who are you really? What really makes you happy?
4)One good question you should keep with your to ponder: What is faith? What is Faith?
5)What should you try to do to make you a better person, a more faithful person, from this study: I should make sure that I think before I act. I should make sure not to get too caught up in the the excitement that I fly too close to the sun.
