APOLOGIES

This isn't really a web site, just a place to put some things so that people can see them, and for me to experiment with simple web 'design'. I haven't spent much time trying to make it look pretty or exciting, so don't expect too much!

"UNDER CONSTRUCTION!!!" means that I have more material I would like to put into that section, but I have no idea when I will find the time!!!

Constructing these pages using Microsoft Frontpage 98, I seem to be having problems making them work with Netscape Navigator 4.05. Sorry to those trying to use a Netscape browser, but it looks like just Microsoft Internet Explorer for now.

If you have any ideas for inclusions and improvements, or spot any mistakes, please contact me at the E-mail address shown below.

Share and enjoy!

oooOOOooo

WHY AM I INTERESTED IN THINGS CZECH AND SLOVAK?

In 1991 a local councillor in my home town of Bridgwater in  Somerset started contacts via the Labour Party with the then chairman of the CSSD (Czechoslovak Social Democratic Party) in Uherské Hradište in Moravia. I met him when he visited Bridgwater in the autumn of that year, and had a long conversation with him (over several beers) about life in his country and the people there. I realised that I was completely ignorant about that part of the world and what he said sounded very interesting. I decided that if I had free time the next summer I would go and visit, and this is what I did. I bought a rucksack, a tent, and a bus ticket to Prague, setting off in the last week of April 1992. The first weekend was spent in a cottage in the White Carpathian hills and the next 3 weeks in Prague. I then started travelling around the country moving from town to town every few days. It was so much fun that I didn't go back to Britain until the end of September, and I've been back every year since!
