The Scope of Poetry in the Twenty-First Century

Can anybody tell me what the scope of poetry will be in the twenty-first century? Will people still look to poetry for its beauty and its meaning? To me Poetry is a lingering art form in which the poet weaves his words into a tapestry he calls his poem. I would like to know if the world still reads poetry or is poetry a part of some ancient past that only a few people still appreciates? To me poetry still exists in this world of technology, but there are a few people who have given up poetry and has written it off as a part of ancient medival art. To me, this is a crime. Poetry should move along into the twenty-first century and assimilate to this high-strung society where technology rules the day. Tell me what you think.

Future of Poetry?

As long as people dream there will be poetry. It is the only art form that does not require a substantial money investment for a novice to begin. One needs only a pencil, scrap paper... and imagination. I once read that poetry was the only art form readily available to the poor. Just listen to Rap Music ... good or bad, like it or hate it, it's getto poetry.
